Chianti Inn In the Chianti hills above the little town of Greve, halfway between Sienna and Florence on SS222, is the Locanda Borgo Antico in the medieval hamlet of Lucolena. We have enjoyed the wonderful food and hospitality of Stefano and Patrizia for the past three years. They have tastefully refurbished centuries-old peasant houses to create a few guest rooms and a terraced restaurant overlooking the slopes of Monte San Michele. Each day they return from the market with fresh ingredients, with which Patrizia works wonders. Besides her wonderful Tuscan dishes, don't miss her homemade Tiramisu or Crema Cotta for dessert. Meals are 50-70.000 liras (approximately $27 to $40 for two) and rooms 90-100.000 liras (approximately $50 to $55). A two-bedroom unit, which sleeps four, is $100. In July and August there is often live music and dancing on one of the terraces, with fireflies twinkling in the forest. Since they don't live on the premises and arrive after marketing, the hosts do not serve breakfast. Less then a kilometre down the hill is the tiny town of Lucolena, where one can buy cappuccino, rolls and fruit. Even if you're not planning to stay overnight in this region, don't miss a chance to enjoy a dinner. It's a good idea to make a reservation |
